Many people have asked what the connections between psychiatry and jazz music are. We don't know, e
xcept that both are complex matters and speak to emotions as well as intellect. To be an adequate performer takes many years in both psychiatry and jazz. What we agree about, however, is that playing jazz is stimulating to our professional as well as personal lives. The members of this orchestra have worked together for more than ten years. The band plays modern jazz; happy jazz; swing; ballads; ballroom music; South-American music (latin, bossa nova); and Scandinavian folk tunes. The broad repertoire makes the band excellent for every arrangement to which live music would mean something special.

Per Høglend septet has performed at Kongsberg International Jazz Festival in 1992, 1993, and 2001; at jazz clubs in the Oslo area; at many international and national scientific congresses; art exhibitions; weddings; anniversaries etc. In 1996 the orchestra played at Modumseminaret. In 1997 the orchestra gave concerts in Beijing, China, invited by the Beijing tourist office and Beijing International Hotels. The orchestra also played for the American Embassy in Beijing.

Per Høglend has 35 years of experience as a soloist and leader of jazz-and dance bands, which has included several leading Norwegian jazz musicians. His bands have played international jazz festivals in Molde, Kongsberg and Århus; performed in Norwegian radio and television programs, and jazz clubs all over Norway from Hammerfest to Arendal. Per Høglend's first record as a leader came out last year: "Per Høglend Quintet". It received good to excellent reviews.
